1. It was reported that in the morning of 20th May 2022, a medical student by the name of Maung Kyaw Nyi Zin, 21 years old, of Mandalay University of Medicine, 3rd year, 12/2017 batch, who was said to have taken an active role in Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) was shot in the head and killed by the terrorist lackeys of the terrorist military council while he was travelling with his family in a car on the Mandalay – Monywa highway. An innocent life taken away by the terrorists.

2. The terrorist military council is continually committing atrocities, targeting specialists, doctors, nurses, health care workers, medical and allied medical students by arbitrary detentions, torment, torture and murder. In addition, they have been stripped of their licences to practise, their patients’ medical data illegally obtained by illicit means, their clinics and hospitals raided, ransacked, put under unlawful scrutiny and sealed off.

3. According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma)’s published data, up to 19th May 2022, a total of 1,851 citizens have lost their lives due to the atrocities of the terrorist military council. The actual figure of the dead could be higher than this. AAPP’s data published on 20th May 2022 on the number of citizens imprisoned stands at 10,716 and of those 1,077 have been given a sentence.

4. The Ministry of Health of the National Unity Government pays homage to Maung Kyaw Nyi Zin and all those that have fallen and shares the sorrow of all of their families. The Ministry is doing its utmost to obtain legal redress for all those innocent lives of medical and allied medical students, healthcare workers and citizens that were lost. We pledge and vow to take legal action against the terrorist military council and their lackeys who helped commit these crimes and that together hand in hand with the populace we will strive towards the fall of the military dictatorship and building a new future where a federal democracy can flourish.
